Dans les boutiques à touristes de New York, on vend des statuettes à l’effigie de tous les gratte-ciels les plus emblématiques de la ville. Celle de l’Empire State Building est vendue surmontée d’un grand gorille au pelage brun. Dans notre imaginaire collectif, King Kong a été intégré au patrimoine de l’Empire State Building, cette fiction est aujourd’hui partie intégrante de l’histoire de ce monument.
Dans diverses suites du premier opus, écrites les décennies suivantes, Kong le jeune fut abattu par la foudre au sommet de la Tour de Tokyo. Au sommet de la Chicago Temple Building également, les hélicoptères militaires exécutèrent un autre gorille. D’autres morceaux de fictions circulent sur d’autres monuments emblématiques du monde. Au sein de mon atelier, j’ai lancé la fabrication de statuettes représentant une guenon géante du nom de Katie, escaladant la Tour Eiffel…

In the souvenir shops in New York, tourists can find statuettes bearing the effigy of all of the city's most symbolic skyscrapers. The statuette of the Empire State Building is surmounted by a tall gorilla with a brown fur. In our collective mind, King Kong has been incorporated into the Empire State Building's heritage, this fiction has become a key component of the monument's history.
In various developments which followed the first episode and which were written in the following decade, young Kong was struck by lightning at the top of the Tokyo Tower. At the top of the Chicago Temple Building as well, military helicopters shot down another gorilla. Other pieces of fictions about other symbolic monuments of the world are still being spread among us. Within my workshop, I launched the manufacturing of statuettes representing a giant female monkey named Katie as she climbs the Eiffel Tower...
