Construite en 1977 par Renzo Piano et Richard Rogers, la machine Beaubourg, la façade Beaubourg, est la réalisation physique de tout l’imaginaire d’Archigram développé la décennie précédente. Travail sur les réseaux, allusion à l’éphémère, au consommable, au jetable, à la régénération. Allégorie des flux, imaginaire du recyclage.
Reprenant les éléments architecturaux principaux de la façade du Centre Pompidou, je leur ai à mon tour redonné une autre fonction dans la ville, suivant l’esprit originel d’Archigram. Avant d’être un musée, Beaubourg était un cerveau électronique à partir duquel se développa la Cité Beaubourg, une ville modulaire et infinie, distribuée par une arène de tuyaux aux multiples couleurs…

Built in 1977 by Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers, the Beaubourg machine, the Beaubourg facade, is the palpable realisation of Archigram's imaginary universe which was developed in the previous decade. An effort centred on networks, a reference to all things fleeting, consumable and disposable, to regeneration. An allegory of flows, an image of recycling.
Using the main architectural elements from the facade of the Pompidou centre, in line with Archigram's initial vision, I in turn gave them a new purpose within the town. Before being turned into a museum, Beaubourg was indeed an electronic brain from which the Beaubourg City used to grow, a never-ending and modular city, supplied by an arena of multicoloured pipes.
