L’Abbaye de Jumièges est un ancien monastère situé en Normandie et fondé par Saint-Philibert au VIIème siècle. L’abbaye fut, au Moyen Âge, l’un des foyers les plus importants et les plus raffinés de la renaissance religieuse et culturelle en France. Pillée durant les Guerres de religion, l’Abbaye de Jumièges fut progressivement désertée par ses religieux, avant d’être vendue, puis démolie.
Dallages de terre cuite émaillés et fenêtres ornées d’arc trilobés, statues, vitraux, autels d’or et d’argent, les cloches de l’abbaye de Jumièges et le cœur d’Agnès Sorel : la liste de tous les trésors disparus de la belle Abbaye de Jumièges est bien longue… Là-bas, une histoire ancienne qui circule encore, raconte qu’un riche anglais, sillonnant les boucles de la Seine, chargea des caisses de tous les trésors et les pierres de l’Abbaye de Jumièges et la reconstruit à l’identique en Angleterre…

The Abbaye de Jumièges is an ancient monastery located in Normandy and founded by Saint Philibert in the 7th century. During the Middle Age, the abbey was among the most important and refined focal points of the French religious and cultural renaissance. Sacked during the Religion Wars, the abbey was progressively abandoned by its priests, before being sold, then demolished.
Enamelled pavings of terra cotta and windows ornamented with trefoil arches, statues, stained-glass windows, alters of silver and gold, the abbey's bells and Agnes Sorel's heart : the list of the fine abbey's missing treasures is a pretty long one. Over there, an old story is still being spread and tells that a wealthy Englishman, who used to sail on the loops of the Seine, loaded crates containing all of the abbey's treasures and stones, and rebuilt it in England exactly as it was.
